Kit-tai HAU 侯傑泰

Title of presentation: Face-to-Face, Flip, MOOC: Differentiation and Integration 面授、翻轉、慕課：分工與整合
Professor HAU Kit-tai is Fellow of American Educational Research Association, Choh-Ming Li Professor Educational Psychology at the Chinese University of Hong Kong and the former president of Educational Psychology Division, International Association of Applied Psychology. Joining CUHK in 1988, Professor Hau had been the Chairman of the Department of Educational Psychology for 13 years. He was the President of the Educational Psychology Division, International Association of Applied Psychology from 2010 to 2014. He received his BSc and MA degrees from CUHK and pursued further studies at the University of Hong Kong where he received his PhD (psychology) degree. Professor Hau’s research interest includes motivation, self-concept and quantitative methods and he has published extensively in major international academic journals. He also spares no effort in enhancing education in Hong Kong by actively serving on various government and community advisory boards in curriculum and youth development. He has conducted over 80 national advanced applied statistics workshops in mainland China to promote empirical research in social sciences and education.
侯傑泰教授為美國教育研究協會院士、香港中文大學教育心理學卓敏講座教授、及國際應用心理學會教育心理部前主席。他於一九八八年加入中大，曾出任教育心理學系系主任達十三年，曾於二零一零年至二零一四年出任國際應用心理學協會 (International Association of Applied Psychology) 教育心理學部主席。侯教授於中大取得理學士及文學（教育）碩士學位，並於香港大學取得哲學博士（心理學）學位。侯教授的研究範疇包括學習動機、自我概念及量化方法，並於主要國際學術期刊發表百多篇文章。他一直致力提升香港的教育質素，出任政府、中學及志願機構多個有關課程發展及青年培育的委員會成員。侯教授更曾於內地舉辦了逾八十次全國應用統計培訓班，致力提高內地社會科學及教育研究的統計分析水平。
Title of presentation: Lessons learned: what 30+ years of teaching online education have taught us
As the CEO of CMS Global, Charlie Nguyen leads a team of highly accomplished professionals to fulfill our mission of ‘educate, connect our world’. CMS Global provides global access to quality education for everyone. Previously, Charlie led operations for the University of Phoenix in the US, from Texas to Nevada to Colorado to New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts in addition to serving online students in over 20 states. His core competencies are online operations, global partnership and general management. During his tenure with University of Phoenix, he contributed to explosive growth in which enrollment triple to almost 500,000 students and almost 1million graduates. In the recent years, he was asked to lead operations in Asia by Apollo Education Group, parent company of the University of Phoenix. During this timeframe, he assisted a number of universities with launching/expanding their online programs. Prior to Apollo, Charlie started and ran several successful companies in the hospitality, real estate, insurance and e-commerce industries.
Fenghua NIE 聶風華

Fenghua Nie, an assistant research fellow with doctor’s degree, is currently the deputy general-secretary of Tsinghua University, head of Online Education Office, deputy director of the Ministry of Education’s Online Education Research Center, and chairman and president of MOOC-CN Education. Nie received his master’s and doctoral degrees from the School of Economics and Management, Tsinghua University. He has been in charge of the MOOC construction of Tsinghua University since June 2013, coordinating the development of www.xuetangx.com, an online platform, and exploring practices for online education working mechanism. Nie previously worked as the Party secretary and deputy dean of the PBC School of Finance, Tsinghua University. He is the winner of the first and second prize of Tsinghua University teaching achievements award.

Grahame Bilbow has been Director of the Centre for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning (CETL) since May 2013. Prior to this, he was an Assistant Director of the Higher Education Academy (HEA) in the UK, with responsibility for the Arts and Humanities. The HEA is the UK government funded agency responsible for the enhancement of teaching and learning quality at universities across the UK’s four nations. Immediately prior to that appointment, Grahame was First Secretary for Education at the British Embassy in Beijing for nearly four years, where he was responsible for bilateral educational programmes between Britain and China, as well as in Mongolia and North Korea.
Siu Cheung KONG 江紹祥

Professor KONG, Siu-Cheung currently is Professor of the Department of Mathematics and Information Technology; and Director of Centre for Learning, Teaching and Technology, the Education University of Hong Kong. Prof. Kong holds a doctorate from the Department of Computer Science of the City University of Hong Kong. He has produced over 200 academic publications in the areas of computational thinking education; information literacy education; IT in mathematics education; and policy and professional development of teachers on technology-transformed education. Prof. Kong is at present serving as the Past-President of the Asia-Pacific Society for Computers in Education (APSCE), following his capacities as the President-Elect (2012-2013) and the President (2014-2015) in APSCE. He currently is also serving as the Editor-in-Chief of the international journal Research and Practice in Technology Enhanced Learning (RPTEL) and Journal of Computers in Education (JCE).
Xiaoming LI 李曉明

Professor Li received his Ph.D. in the EECS Department of Stevens Institute of Technology, 1986. After working as a post doc and professor in Harbin Institute of Technology from 1988-1995, he worked as a visiting scientist with NPAC at Syracuse University for two years. He has been a professor of computer science at Peking University since 1997.

Ting-Chuen PONG 龐鼎全

Dr. Pong received his Ph.D. in Computer Science from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University in 1984. In 1991, he joined the Hong Kong University of Science & Technology, where he is currently a Professor in Computer Science and Engineering, and a Senior Advisor to the Executive Vice-President and Provost (Teaching Innovation and E-learning). He has served as Associate Dean of Engineering from 1999 to 2002, as Director of the Sino Software Research Institute at HKUST from 1995 to 2000, and as Director of the Mainland Students and Programs Office from 2003 to 2006. From 2002 to 2010, he was the Associate Vice-President for Academic Affairs of the University. He served as Academic Research Advisor for the University Grants Committee from 2010 to 2012. Before joining HKUST, he was an Associate Professor in Computer Science at the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, USA. Dr. Pong is a recipient of the HKUST Excellence in Teaching Innovation Award in 2001. Dr. Pong’s research interests include Multimedia Computing, E-learning, Computer Vision and Image Processing, Artificial Intelligence, and Pattern Recognition. Dr. Pong is a recipient of the Annual Pattern Recognition Society Award in 1990. He has served as Program Co-Chair of the Web and Education track of the Tenth International World Wide Web Conference in 2001, the Third International Computer Science Conference in 1995 and the Third Asian Conference on Computer Vision in 1998.
Isabella Wai-yin POON 潘偉賢

Professor Poon Wai-yin is currently Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Professor in the Department of Statistics of The Chinese University of Hong Kong. Professor Poon obtained her BSc in Mathematics in 1983 and MPhil in Statistics in 1985 from CUHK, PhD in Biostatistics from the University of California at Los Angeles in 1987, and MBA with Distinction from the University of Hull in 1995. Professor Poon was appointed in 1987 as Lecturer in the Department of Statistics at CUHK, and promoted to Professor in 2001. She has served as Associate Dean (Education) in the Faculty of Science in 2004-2014, and Director of the Centre for Promoting Science Education in 2006-2014, nurturing numerous talents in the science discipline over the years. She was also the Director of Centre for Learning Enhancement and Research (CLEAR) in 2012-2015, and was appointed as Associate Vice-President in 2014 and Pro-Vice-Chancellor in 2015, exerting leadership in teaching and learning at faculty and university level.

Dr Eva Wong is the Director of the Centre for Holistic Teaching and Learning (CHTL), at the Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU). With education and student learning as the main focus of her work, she joined HKBU in February 2010 to take up major responsibilities for the professional development of academic staff, assisting the implementation of the outcome-based approach to teaching and learning, and supporting the University’s e-learning endeavours, with the main focus of enhancing student learning with a holistic approach. Dr Wong worked in a number of tertiary institutions in the United Kingdom during the early part of her career, returning to Hong Kong with her family in 1991. She then joined the City University of Hong Kong (CityU) as a faculty member in the Department of Information System, and received the University’s Teaching Excellence Award in 1996-1997. Since receiving the Award, Dr Wong had worked in various units within CityU, bringing her experience and expertise in IT systems implementation to good use for the successful implementation of various academic systems.

Title of presentation: The Development and Validation of the Rubric Quality Index for Peer Assessment in MOOCs
Professor Shih-Chung Jessy Kang, Ph.D. of Stanford University, is currently a professor in department of civil engineering in National Taiwan University. His research focuses on the advanced visual and robotics tools for engineering purposes. He developed multiple methods on the automation and simulation for crane operations. He is now the editor-in-chief of Visualization in Engineering. He edited multiple special issues on the topics related to the visualization and robotics applications. Prof. Kang is also an active researcher on innovative engineering education. He offers courses on engineering graphics, game development, data visualization and robotics and was award as NTU excellent teacher. His Coursera course on engineering graphic was ranked top 2% MOOCs among Chinese learners.
美國史丹福大學土木與環境工程博士，結構技師。現為臺大土木系教授、臺大教務處副教務長。康教授長期投入於工程教育，在臺大開設在工程圖學、遊戲引擎、資料視覺化及機器人等課程，曾獲得優良教師獎。康教授推動臺大開放式課程(OCW)及通識教育網(GET)等數位化教育。他的工程圖學網路磨課師課程，有超過4萬人修習。現擔任國際期刊Visualization in Engineering之總編輯，編輯十餘本工程視覺化及機器人自動化主題之特刊和專書，發表超過70篇的期刊論文。

Prof. Carlos Delgado Kloos received the PhD degree in Computer Science from the Technical University of Munich and in Telecommunications Engineering from the Technical University of Madrid. He is Full Professor at the Universidad Carlos III de Madrid, where he is Director of the UNESCO Chair on “Scalable Digital Education for All” and Vice President for Strategy and Digital Education. He introduced the teaching of Java at his University in 1997.

Jimmy Lee graduated on the Dean’s Honours List with an Honours BMath degree, majoring both in Applied Mathematics and Computer Science, from the University of Waterloo, Canada, in 1987. He read his MMath degree in Computer Science in 1988 also from Waterloo. Jimmy then moved to the University of Victoria, Canada, and completed his doctoral study in 1992 under the supervision of Maarten van Emden in the area of constraint logic programming. During his graduate studies, he was involved in research projects funded by IBM (Canada) and the Canadian Institute of Robotics and Intelligent Systems. Upon graduation, Jimmy returned to Hong Kong and joined The Chinese University of Hong Kong, where he is now a Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering and a Professor (by courtesy) in the Department of Systems Engineering and Engineering Management. He was Graduate Division Head during 2008-11 and in charge of the Department’s curricula and Teaching and Learning matters during 2011-14. Jimmy’s research focuses on the theory and practice of constraint satisfaction and optimization with applications in combinatorial optimization, scheduling, and resource allocation. In particular, he is interested in problem modeling, stochastic local search, symmetry breaking, global constraints, and over-constrained problems.

Wei-I Lee is a full-time professor in Department of Electrophysics at National Chiao Tung University. Before working as a full-time professor, he was an associate professor in the same department. His research expertise are Optoelectronic Semiconductor Devices and Physics. Wei-I Lee obtained his bachelor’s degree from Department of Electrophysics, National Chiao Tung University. He then pursued further degree and obtained his Master’s degree from Institute of Electrical Engineering, University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1985. Wei-I Lee obtained his Ph.D degree from Institute of Electrical Engineering, University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1988.

Professor Chee Wei Tan received the B.S. (First Class Honors) from the National University of Singapore in 2002, and the M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering from Princeton University, Princeton, NJ, in 2006 and 2008, respectively. He is an Associate Professor at the City University Hong Kong. He was a Postdoctoral Scholar at the California Institute of Technology, and affiliated with the Netlab and the Rigorous Systems Research Group at Caltech. He is currently serving as an Editor for the IEEE Transactions on Communications and an Editor for the IEEE/ACM Transactions on Networking. He was the Chair of the IEEE Information Theory Society Hong Kong Chapter in 2014 and 2015, during which the Chapter won the 2015 IT Chapter of the Year Award.
